A BIT OF OUR HISTORY! Arbat – is one of the most mysterious and even enigmatic titles on the map of the capital. Our contemporary, a great poet Bulat Okudzhava called it in one of his songs “strange” and in the same time made a declaration of endless love to this old Moscow quarter. Remember? “You are flowing like a river. A strange name! And the asphalt is transparent like the water in a river. Ah, Arbat, my Arbat, you are my vocation, you are my joy and you are my trouble…” What Russian doesn’t know the words of this song and who hasn’t been on the most famous street of Russia? If somebody hasn’t yet – then welcome! Arbat for Muscovites is not just a street, it’s like a special part of the capital, kind of “Moscow inside Moscow” with its own history, identity, traditions, its own toponymical landscape.

In 1917 during the October days the Red Army troops have installed a machine gun here to clear the way through the Arbat street to the Kremlin for revolutionary forces. In 1920 a poet A.Blok stayed in this house. Here also resided: a soviet writer and poet N.N. Zarudin, professor of botany V.S. Dokturovsky, in 1923-1924 – composer A.A. Davidenko, in 1919-1933 – writer A.N. Rybakov (the action of his novels “Kortik” and “Shot” takes place in this house). We occupy only part of this building (four-storey part, one of the oldest), which was built in 1900 and a merchant’s family lived here. In some of our rooms you can still notice details of that time such as an ornament on ceiling or the old-fashioned doors. We specially left these details almost untouched so that our guests can taste the atmosphere of the old times. After 1917 the whole building was nationalized and given to people! Since then the house has been experiencing the period of the famous Soviet shared apartments! You can easily follow the course of time on the walls of our staircases, which are painted in different styles from the end of 19th century up to the 1960s!

You can always order the train tickets during your staying at hotel or in advance!!!!
